Saturday Playlist: My Favorite Songs

I stand by the belief that a person's favorite song says a lot about them so I made a playlist of a couple of my all time favorites.

Tavi Gevinson Over The Years

source
Tavi went from a cute eleven year old to a grown teenager. Over the years, her fashion and appearance have obviously changed.
2008
Can we talk about that grey hair? Tavi is absolutely adorable and during this time, just looked like a little girl playing dress up (which she basically was) during this time, Tavi was in sixth grade and when I saw her, she talked about how her classmates would make fun of her and how she dressed so crazily. She explained how she'd try and come back with something even weirder just to annoy them. I am still in awe how a girl that age could style something like this.

2009
This is probably the first picture of Tavi I ever saw. This period was when The Style Rookie was getting more and more popular and Tavi was gaining views. In an interview with the BBC, Tavi explained that she really dressed like a grandma and I can still see the "grandma chic" style she was going for. Tavi is about thirteen in this photo and is still as she described, "playing dress up". Also, can we talk about that time Bryan Boy dressed up as Tavi for halloween? For that was pretty magical.

2010
Tavi became much more edgy at this point and though she was only around thirteen/fourteen, you could tell she was growing up and growing out of the "cute little girl" image most people had for her. I really liked this point in Tavi's career for she was really learning how to experiment and gave her readers something they weren't expecting. 2010 was the beginning of Tavi breaking out of the awkward little kid look she had going and became much more confident in her style and just herself generally.

2011
Rookie had been started and Tavi a lot had not only changed in Tavi's style but also personality wise. She stopped being looked at as a little girl and really had grown up a lot. Tavi Gevinson had always been pretty but this was the year when everyone really realized how gorgeous she is. One of my favorite posts of Tavi's was when she wrote about how she wanted to be pretty. She didn't want to be attractive for boys but just for herself and that really got me to think that the want to be attractive is a "un feminist" thing to do.
source
2012
Tavi was gradually toning down her style. Her clothing was still interesting and fashionable but she explained that though playing dress up was a huge part of her childhood and middle school life, it was time to grow up and she didn't really see fashion as one of her main interests anymore.
2013
source
By the time 2013 came around, Tavi's main focuses were mostly on Rookie and the exciting Year Book she was creating. Her style was still very unique but as she said in 2012, she wasn't as interested in it anymore though she still did love clothing. I really loved this point for though Tavi was still a fashion icon, she had also grown to be such an inspiring feminist icon too. At this point, she was also focusing on her acting career with the release of her first Hollywood movie, "Enough Said"

Tavi has grown up so much since she started her blogging career and I couldn't be prouder. Rookie has become her main focus though from time to time, she will update The Style Rookie. Her style is very sophisticated though she will add a modern touch to it.

Outfits

Monday
I wore black leggings along with a Rolling Stones shirt my cousin, Maggie, gave me. I then put a red flannel I took from my grandpa's closet and put it over everything. Frannie curled my extensions the night before and I'm proud to say they look pretty great.

Tuesday
As you can see, I wasn't feeling very creative this week (especially for it was so short due to February vacation) so I put on a pair of black leggings along with a Nirvana shirt I cut into a V-neck tank top (I orignally got it as a tee shirt with a crew neck from Hot Topic).

Wednesday
I'm just going to say that I felt so gorgeous on Wednesday. I wore black leggings (wow what a surprise) with an Attack Attack shirt Maggie gave me. It was originally a tee with a rather high crew neck so I just it into a tank top and made a V-neck. I then pushed my hair back with a thin headband (which is nearly impossible with extensions) and put on a pair of hoop earrings I got from a store called X-sessory (imagine a Home Depot filled with accessories and then you have what it is like).

Valentines Day Playlist

So I wanted to make a valentines day playlist before the 14th and the only way to do that was have the Friday Extra and Saturday Playlist on the same day.
On another note, a store called Clubbing Girl is having a huge giveaway going on and they asked me to show you guys so if you're interested you can click here. They have some real cute dresses.
Happy Valentine's Day!

Outfits

*This post skips around with the days for we had a mass amount of snow days this week.
Tuesday
I wore an oversized Pink Floyd shirt I got from a thrift store along with a pair of black leggings (like every single week). In my hair, I wore a flower headband (I have no idea where it's from). I realize I don't say this often enough, but I felt genuinely pretty for the first time in weeks.

Thursday
I put on a Never Shout Never tee I got from the boy's section of thrift (OK can we talk about how well this shirt fits me?) Unsurprisingly, I wore yet another pair of black leggings. I then put my extensions into pigtails (which takes forever to get right by the way).

Friday
I wore a button up dress/shirt with tons of little safety on it (my cousin gave it to me though she bought it from H&M). Since it was a little small on me, I only buttoned up a bit of it and then put a black tank top under it.

Hair Q and A

The only good explanation I can come up with for disappearing yesterday was that I have a Teen Wolf addiction (I watch it ironically) and needed to finish season one. Anyways, now I'm back with a hair question kind of thing for you guys!
Where did you get your extensions from?
I bought mine online at hairextensionsbuy.com. I would really recommend this website for they have a wide variety of colors and textures. My specific extensions are Remy (human hair) and fifteen inches. The color is light auburn for I wanted to make a sort of ombre-esque look.
How long does it take to put your extensions in?
About ten minutes just because I am still learning how to properly put them in.
How long have you been coloring your hair?
I've been dying my hair for about five years now since I'm really stupid. It started with these terrible blonde streaks in fifth grade then in sixth grade, I dyed it all dark brown and put some blonde highlights in. I took a break in seventh grade and this year I've been dying red into the fringe and under the layers of my hair.
How many days a week do you straighten your hair?
I try and straighten it the least I can for as you know, heat damages your hair and my hair is already messed up enough! I try to only blow dry and straighten it twice a week.
What kind of straightener and blow dryer do you have?
My hair straightener is a Chai Air and my blow dryer is a Thunderbird by Conair. The Chai Air is OK for my hair is extremely thick and doesn't always do the best job. My blow dryer on the other hand, is amazing. My hair can be perfectly dry within five minutes (and that says something if you have seen how much hair I have).
What hair products do you recommend for straightened hair?
When styling my hair I put on three coats of It's A Ten (one before blow drying, one before straightening, one after straightening). I absolutely love this product for it keeps your hair from drying out too much and adds keratin and other vitamins to help your hair being too damaged from the heat. After straightening my hair I always put on a layer of Precious Oil for it helps it be a bit more smooth and less spiky as it looks when I have just run my straightener through it. Also, I would really recommend Moroccan Oil for it helps damaged hair feel less like straw and more like real life hair coming from your scalp.

Outfits

Monday
I ended wearing my Bring Me The Horizon tank (Hot Topic) along with a pair of red skinny jeans I think I bought from Annie Sez in about sixth grade. On top of it all, I put on a blazer my mom's coworker's mother gave me (she heard of my interest in vintage clothing and gave me a garbage bag full of other gorgeous vintage pieces.)
Tuesday
I wore a floral tank top my cousin, Maggie, gave me with a light blue bandeau I stole from Emma. On bottom, I wore a mustard yellow skirt I bought from Urban Outfitters and black leggings.

Wednesday

I was really lazy on Wednesday so I threw on a "Nightmare Before Christmas" V-neck Maggie also gave me with a pair of black leggings. Also, I realize that when I push my hair back I look like middle aged soccer mom. I was lazy.

Thursday
I put on a "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" tee Maggie gave me with a black H&M skirt. Also, I think my hair looked real cute that day with the extensions.

Friday
I wore a flowy purple top Maggie gave me and a pair of black and orange leggings (also Maggie) along with my bird cage necklace.

Saturday
I put on my Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge tee (Hot Topic) along with the same H&M skirt I wore Thursday with red tights under it.
